I covered Jen and Phil’s intimate Wedding in Hackney, London last month on the first really lovely sunny Saturday of the year! I love shooting in London, so when the couple got in touch about their small, low key Hackney Town Hall Wedding I couldn’t wait for the day, and it did not disappoint.
Everything about this wedding was individual, stylish and authentic. Throwing tradition out the window, the couple spent their Wedding morning together, getting ready at the beautiful Town Hall Hotel in Bethnal Green. Capturing the bride and groom together on their wedding morning was a first for me and what a privilege it was to photograph such a calm and personal start to the day.
The interior of The Town Hall Hotel is stunning and because the bride and groom spent some time there before the Wedding Ceremony we had the chance to capture some amazing portraits. One of the great things about shooting a small Wedding is the amount of extra time you have to spend on those natural portraits of the Bride and Groom, which can often be subject to time constraints.
The couple then went to Hackney Town Hall for their Wedding Ceremony. After the ceremony Jen and Phil were still super relaxed and happy to play around with interesting shots, we took ubers (another wedding job first for me) to Regents Canal in Victoria Park where the bride and groom spent some time walking along taking it all in, it was such a breath of fresh air to see a bride and groom relax and enjoy some time together on their wedding day! The whole experience had a celebratory feel about it with strangers congratulating the couple on their nuptials, genuinely happy to witness the scene. I absolutely love the shots that we took around Victoria Park, I think that you can see that we had the time for the couple to relax into the shoot and that they are really enjoying themselves! Smaller weddings do allow you to do this obviously there are fewer people to worry about and timings can be more flexible, but even if you are having a bigger wedding please, please take a leaf out of these guys book and do what you want to do, spend a bit of time enjoying the day just the two of you!
Jen and Phil didn’t want lots of group shots so I got to spend time taking reportage style shots of the bride and groom with their guests.
The reception was held at Sager and Wilde, a trendy wine bar in Bethnal Green. The Bride, Groom and their guests enjoyed delicious food and plenty of good wine, the wedding continued to feel relaxed and full of authentic happiness. I got to capture the Wedding party having fun in reportage style shots, I often say that I want my clients to forget I am a photographer and think of me as a wedding guest – blending into the background, at Jen and Phil’s wedding I almost forgot I was a photographer myself! I was made to feel so welcome by this super friendly group of people. Thank you so much, Jen and Phil, and all of your guests for making me feel so welcome at your very cool laid back London Wedding. Enjoy the photos and let me know what you think!
